CCCJ members are invited to take part in the 2nd Joint Symposium of the Japan-Canada Chambers Council. The event consists of a 3-day program in Vancouver B.C., hosted by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in partnership with the Vancouver Board of Trade, and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

Participants taking part in the JCCI delegation are invited to a special orientation meeting with Vancouver-based Japanese businesses on the evening of March the 20th. Orientation location to be confirmed.   

On the 21st, guests will meet at the Fairmont Pacific Rim in downtown Vancouver for the daylong symposium. Canada’s Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Mackenzie Clugston, and Japan’s Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Kenjiro Monji, will provide opening remarks, which will be followed by a keynote speech on Canada’s Political and Economic outlook. The symposium will then consist of three sessions: 1) Room to grow: Seizing New Opportunities, 2) Investing in Japan and 3) Building relationships that last.

The first session will consist of a presentation by McKinsey & Co. on new opportunities, and a panel session focused on key industries in the Canada-Japan business context such as: IT & digital, energy, agri-food, manufacturing, etc. Session 2, focuses on investing in Japan. This portion of the symposium gives insight into why Canadian businesses should invest in Japan, and examples of successful Canadian businesses that have done so. Building Relationships – the third session in the program – will be done in a panel format and will cover topics such as education exchange immigration and tourism

Finally, on the 22nd, delegates will go on site visits in the Vancouver area, and will be invited to a networking luncheon.  

The Symposium will bring together over a hundred business leaders, policymakers and diplomats for one of the most significant bilateral business events in over decade.

What is the Japan-Canada Chambers Council?

Launched in 2014, the Japan-Canada Chambers Council is a platform to build relationships, share knowledge and advocate policies to support trade and investment between the two countries. It does this through joint events, delegations, research, public statements and meetings with policymakers. Housed in the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Council includes senior executives from leading companies and industry associations involved in bilateral business. Leadership is provided by two national chairs: Mr. Shoei Utsuda, former Global Chairman of Mitsui & Co., Inc and Mr. Steven Dechka, former President & CEO.
