Indigenous peoples – specifically First Nations, Metis, and Inuit – are the original inhabitants of the land that is now Canada. In the years between 2011 and 2016, the population of those Canadians identifying as indigenous grew by 19.5%, almost five times the growth rate for Canada’s non-indigenous population, according to Statistics Canada. This includes diverse entrepreneurs, innovators, artists and creators.
Understanding how to develop mutually respectful and mutually beneficial relationships with indigenous communities and indigenous-led organizations will be important to anyone interested in doing business in Canada. Please consider joining a series of dialogues to learn more about who indigenous entrepreneurs are and how to engage effectively. The CCCJ is honoured to host speakers who will approach these topics, as well as recent developments like the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, in a way that makes them accessible.
