CCCJ Luncheon with Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary for Asia-Pacific, Deepak Obhrai.

In Japan to meet with Japanese businesses, academics and government officials as well as to collect information on the challenges and opportunities facing Canadian businesses in Japan; Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary for Asia-Pacific Deepak Obhrai will present to CCCJ Members on the importance of Japan to the Government of Canada’s Global Commerce Strategy. Following the presentation, there will be a roundtable discussion providing an opportunity for participants to voice their input to the Parliamentary Secretary on this fact-finding mission.

At this important stage for the Canada-Japan business community, CCCJ Members are encouraged to participate in this intimate luncheon and contribute their private-sector knowledge on issues facing Canadians doing business in Japan.

Deepak Obhrai was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Calgary East in 1997. He was then re-elected in 2000, 2004, 2006 and 2008; successively receiving a larger percentage of the popular vote. In the most recent election held in May 2011, Deepak was re-elected with 67.4% majority.

After the Conservative Party won the general election in January 2006, Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Deepak as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. In March 2008, Deepak was vested with the additional responsibility of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Cooperation.

In the current Parliament, Deepak serves as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
