In Japan for advanced discussions related to the Joint Study on the Possibility of a Canada-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, David Plunkett will address CCCJ Members on Canada's efforts and progress thus far in the bilateral discussions,  and also touch on addressing Canada's broader trade agenda.

At this very important stage for the Canada-Japan business community, this is not an event to be missed.

David Plunkett is Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Chief Trade Negotiator (Bilateral and Regional), Trade Policy and Negotiations since September 1st, 2009. 

From September 2006 to end of August 2009, he was Director General of the Bilateral and Regional Trade Policy Bureau of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. As Director General, he managed the bilateral and regional trade policy negotiations, including Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), Foreign Investment Protection and Promotion Agreements (FIPAs) as well as management and implementation of existing FTAs, including negotiations with Singapore and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

He has served overseas in Geneva, Switzerland, Washington D.C. and most recently in London, England where he was Canada’s Senior Trade Commissioner.

He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia and his Masters from the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
