On 31 October 2014, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (CCCJ) hosted its annual Maple Leaf Gala at the Tokyo American Club, in Azabudai, Minato ward.
This year’s Gala was hosted in the presence of Her Imperial Highness, Princess Takamado, and His Excellency, Ambassador of Canada to Japan Mackenzie Clugston.
The CCCJ’s Maple Leaf Gala is truly one of the highest-profile events in the Japan-Canada relationship. This year attracted 220 Members and their guests, representing both Japanese and Canadian companies, as well as governments and other organizations.
CCCJ Chairman Wilf Wakely noted in his Gala address that the CCCJ embodies the mutual respect and affection Canada and Japan share, and the 2014 Maple Leaf Gala celebrates that friendship. Today, the CCCJ’s membership is increasingly a mixture of Canada and Japan, and its activities reflect this, embracing more Japanese organizations and individuals with an affinity for Canada than ever before, with events like the Maple Leaf Gala taking this into account.
Members and their guests enjoyed a luxurious five course meal and engaging entertainment. Menu highlights included an Autumn pan roast salmon, followed by a grilled beef tenderloin plate, and Maple Bacon Chocolate Cake. Kasuga Vineyards supplied Canadian wines from British Columbia, and the evening’s beer came from Gotemba Breweries in Shizuoka prefecture. Gala guests were entertained by professional Rakugo performer and CCCJ Cultural Ambassador Katsura Sunshine; Jazz Duo Eimy and Mimi; Shamisen Group Asakusa Oiwake; and Brad Holmes’ Hitmen.
The Chamber extends a special thanks to Maple Leaf Gala Platinum, Gold, and Silver Sponsors for their generous support, and to the Members and their guests who took part. It is this active engagement that allows for the strengthening of the ties across our Chamber, and between Japan and Canada.
This is the second consecutive year for the CCCJ and the Tokyo American Club to collaborate for the event. The Chamber sincerely thanks the Club and its staff for the hospitality.

２０１４年１０月３１日に、在日カナダ商工会議所は「メープルリーフ正式年中舞踏会」を東京港区にある「東京アメリカンクラブ」で主催いたしました。
今年度は、高円妃殿下と駐日カナダ大使館マッケンジー・クラグストン大使閣下のご同席の元、「２０１４年度メープルリーフ舞踏会」が開かれました。
ＣＣＣＪ主催「メープルリーフ舞踏会」は日加関係のイベントの中でも最も知名度の高いイベントとして知られております。今年度は、数々の日本企業やカナダ企業、また政府やその他の団体から２２０名のゲストをお迎えしました。
ウィルフ ウェイクリー ＣＣＣＪ会長は、舞踏会あいさつの言葉の中で、「ＣＣＣＪは、カナダと日本が共有する相互の尊敬と愛情の賜物であり、この舞踏会は、その友情をお祝いする場である」、と述べました。現在、在日カナダ商工会議所の会員はカナダと日本の企業と個人が混合したものであり、当会議所が催す行事にはそれが反映されております。また、これまで、より多くのカナダに密接な関係のある日本団体と個人を歓迎して参りました。「２０１４年度メープルリーフ舞踏会」は、それを考慮した結果でした。
メンバーとそのゲストは、豪華な５コースの食事と、魅力的なエンターテインメントを楽しみました。メニュー・ハイライトは、秋鮭のロースト焼き、牛のテンダーロイングリルと、メープルベーコンのチョコレートケーキでした。また、「春日ブドウ園」から、ブリデッシュコロンビア産ワインをご提供して頂き、静岡県にある「御殿場醸造所」産のビールも振舞われました。そして、舞踏会ゲストは、桂三輝 プロ落語家・ＣＣＣＪ文化大使、ジャズのデュオ「Eimy and Mimi」, 三味線バンド「浅草追分」、とバンド「Brad Holmes’ Hitmen」によるパフォーマンスを堪能しました。
当商工会議所は、「メープルリーフ舞踏会」プラチナ、ゴールド、シルバースポンサー各位の寛大なご支援に、お礼を申し上げたいと存じます。また、会員の皆さまとそのゲストの方々にもお礼を申し上げたいと存じます。このような、活発な関わり合いが、当会議所内の関係、また日加関係の強化に繋がります。
